This insurance option has provided many South Africans with the opportunity to cover the financial risks to their material possessions and those of their loved ones without paying hefty premiums.
Amongst others this includes vehicle, property, household, medical, personal liability, travel and business insurance. The reason why these policies are classified as short term insurance is because your insurance needs in this regard will change over time.
A short term personal lines policy is taken out to cover the risk of an individual while a commercial lines policy is taken out to cover the risk of a business/enterprise.

Higher risks a commercial vehicle is used far more often than a personal vehicle, and often involves carrying abnormal loads. There is a higher chance of damage to the vehicle or of it being involved in an accident as it spends more time on the road
Higher premiums Because of the higher risk with insuring commercial vehicles, your premium – the monthly fee that you pay an insurance company – will be higher.
Multiple drivers in many cases, more than one person will drive a commercial vehicle. For example, if your business has a fleet of vehicles, you may employ several drivers. For this reason, a commercial vehicle insurance policy needs to extend to every driver.
Transporting non-owned goods in a business environment, you could often be transporting goods in your vehicle that don’t belong to you. If something happens to them, for example they’re damaged in an accident or stolen, commercial insurance covers the replacement of those goods even though they don’t belong to you.
How quick and easy is it in South-Africa to steal a car or get into your home?
Remote jamming is when a criminal within close proximity to you and your remote is able to block the signal of your remote by pressing a similar remote at the same time. Remote jamming also known as car jamming can prevent the locking and alarm system from being activated on vehicles, businesses and homes, leaving these vulnerable to theft.
Remote jamming is simple to avoid. Simply follow these tips:
Ensure that your vehicle is actually locked before walking away. This may take a little extra time, but the act of tugging on the door handle to ensure the contents of your vehicle are secure could save you a lot of money and the hassle of reporting a theft. Double-check that your boot is locked. If you are close enough, you should also be able to hear your locking mechanism activate.
Do NOT leave valuable items in your vehicle, particularly where they are visible to passers-by. Something as innocent as a jacket or a bag of shopping can be enticing to criminals. Where possible, park in safe, crowded areas where there are lots of other vehicles and ideally, security personnel.
Be aware of your surroundings. Look out for suspicious individuals near your vehicle. Someone standing nearby with their hands in their pockets, with no apparent reason to be there, may well be concealing a remote jammer in their pocket. Or like in the video, a suspicious vehicle parked close to yours with tinted windows and/or suspicious looking passengers could also potentially be remote jammers. Most importantly, NEVER approach or confront any individual that you may suspect of remote jamming. By doing this, you may be putting yourself in danger.
